Xavier Jesuit Institute’s Agroecological Center is a non-profit integral agro-business, which aims at organic crops, and livestock production in Ogbere-Ijebu, Ogun State, Nigeria. Xavier Jesuit Institute’s Agroecology Centre is situated on 538.729 hectares of land in Ogbere-Ijebu, the outskirts of Ijebu-Ode (Ogun State). Ijebu-Ode is a town that is about 110 km by road, northeast of Lagos. Ijebu-Ode has a tropical climate and is about 100 km from the Atlantic Ocean. Ijebu-Ode is an old (existed by the 16th century), but small town of about 157,161 according to the 2006 census (National Population Commission, 2010). The Agroecology Centre emphasizes sustainability, eco-friendliness (organic, minimal carbon footprint), efficiency, and education (research, and educational outreach to rural farmers). The center is beginning small and, over time, will develop into an innovative agricultural faculty of a university.
